A MARTIAL arts fighter who brutally assaulted his girlfriend as she slept in bed has been jailed for 13 months.
21-year-old Brogan Sloan woke up as Dominic McCluskey, also 21,혻repeatedly punched and kicked her in a beating which lasted up to an hour.
Newcastle Crown Court heard that after a night out on February 21,혻McCluskey혻searched through her mobile phone and read old messages while she slept before punching, kicking and dragging her across the bedroom.
Terrified Brogan was left with broken ribs, a missing front tooth, a fractured nose, a swollen face and two black eyes.
Brogan, who is mum to two-year-old Jackson, slammed his sentence, which she believes is too short.
She said: “I thought I was going to die, I didn’t think I was going to get out of there alive.
“All I could see and taste was blood. I had a missing tooth and I could hardly breathe.
“Dominic knew exactly what he was doingt as he was a K1 fighter.
“I am happy he has been given a prison sentence but it is not justice served.
She added: “I could have died, it could have been a lot worse than it was.
“He should have been given a lot longer than 13 months.
“It’s a bit of a joke really.
“He deserves to be punished and locked up for a long time for what he did to me.”
Prosecutor Neil Jones told the court: “She put her phone under the pillow before she went to sleep and she woke up to find she was being attacked in a sustained manner – he was punching her and kicking her as well.

“He will have no problem in returning to work when he is free to do so.
“None of his previous convictions are to do with domestic abuse – this was a sudden loss of temper on his part.
“It was out of character.”
McCluskey, from Gateshead,혻pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.혻He also admitted assaulting a police officer and two charges of criminal damage.
Recorder Darren Preston sentenced him to 13 months in prison, saying: “This was a prolonged, vicious and sustained attack.
“You and your partner had been out drinking – you both went to bed and when she woke up to find you attacking her.
“There was a sustained and repetitive nature to this.
“She had many injuries, serious injuries and she lost a tooth.
“Domestic abuse is a very serious offence.”
Speaking after the sentencing,혻Brogan said: “I don’t think he will learn his lesson.혻He will just come back out and go back to his old ways.
“My ribs still hurt now and he attacked me in February.
“But I am a much stronger person now after what I have been through.”
